Europe approaches its cultural perigee on Saturday evening in Belgrade.

Those of youse who have a vote are expected to use it (repeatedly, you all know how) the right way, or I shall be obliged to make use(*) of these most interesting negatives that have (ahem) somehow come into my possession.

Animal husbandry indeed . . .

I'm almost afraid to ask how you came by this... but I am not afraid! So, how in the hell did you find this, come on, tell the sad, sad, story.  Was Louis somehow involved?  Much drinking?

Ah, you must be talking about our referendum on the Lisbon Treaty.  Very commendable European civic sense.  Very civilised.

Surely that entry you linked to can't be worse than "My loverly horse".

Apparently it was.  Our feathered friend's performance was so fowl, he was plucked and stuffed last night.  No song in the final for Ireland again.  Douche points.

From that article: "Ireland’s glorious history in the Eurovision has taken a battering in recent years."  How can anyone put glorious and Eurovision in the same sentence.

Shoulda gone for "My Lovely Horse".  The Divine Comedy version.

(edited for needless clarity)

*sigh*

Such a senseless waste of talent. Such aesthetic numbness.

Oh well.  Anyone who wants their goat pictures back just add a response here to let me know.

Eurovision is a work of unmitigated evil and definite proof of the antichrist and therefore by extension god.

The only reason to watch it is to get increasing drunk playing the Wogan Drinking Game (every time he makes a barbed dig at something, drink!) hope that Fern Cotton (Phwoar! Eh? Eh? Say no more!) is co presenting, and placing unadvisable wagers on which East European countries take it the most seriously and use their votes to annoy the neighbours they were just at war with. I just hope we get a transexual Israeli again, she caused a good bit of fuss.

Oh wait, those are actually some good reasons. DAMN!

And yes I would like my photos back please.

WATERLOO!!!

I hold George W Bush is responsible for the outrage of us Americans being forced to rely on both foreign oil, and also foreign programming.  Any chance on those goats being goats of mass destruction?

So...  Am I the only one who's actually enjoying the music coming out of Eurovision?

I'd briefly heard of Eurovision before, but this year after being baffled by the Dustin video I listened to some of the videos of the other country's songs.

Maybe I'm just too burned out on the crappy state of popular music in the US, I've been craving something new for a long time.  But I really liked the variety that was being offered.  I understand that a lot of people are disappointed that most of it was too poppy, but I don't care, I'm enjoying it all immensely.

I kind of dig the Greek offering, a dance number featuring some traditional Greek music samples, Portugal has a nice traditional Portuguese offering, I really liked the Ukranian song, it sounds kind of like a revamped disco number sung by a woman with an absolutely fantastic voice, the Fins offer up heavy metal, Bulgaria gives us techno-hip hop featuring a laser harp, which appears to be a real instrument... I have to admit I was even amused by the ultra corny Latvian performance of Pirates of the Sea.

I wouldn't mind seeing something like this done in the States as an alternative to American freaking Idol.

I'll check them out, but I'm really not in an acoustic mood at the moment.  I can enjoy bluegrass, but it's just not working for me right now.  I've been on an electronic music kick for a while, and it's not over yet.

Speaking of the most appalling collection of noise that calls itself music, I was bored this morning stuck in traffic on the M50, and I got to thinking that Billy and the Evolanders would make a pretty good name for a band.

And if AtBC were to form a band, it would have to be called The Banned and cover the old classic The Night They Drove Old Dembski Down

Na na na na na na na na naaa.

Depends on the type of music. That would suit a 60s beat group, but if they were going for a Summer-of-Love psychadelic Fillmore West kind of thing, something like Dr Bill's Design Detection and Salvation Confraternity would be more the thing.

Sympathy. They made a parking lot and called it a motorway.
