Dropping G's is not wholly evil. I was certainly dropping mine today as I explained why surface area = 2b + perimeter*height. Bein' southern doesn't have any necessary contradiction with math...

A lot of the best people do it.  Here's an article on her accent which turns out to be a mix of Minnesotan, Wisconsonian, Great NorthWestern and a dash of North Dakotan, all processed through the Alaskan accent grinder and flash frozen at the peak of ripeness, then drizzled lightly with Canuck, you betcha.

She can also turn it on and off at will.

Political Humor Contest

The contest is based on the old joke line “What do you get if you cross X with Y?”

Here’s my stab at it.

Q: What do you get when you cross Martin Luther King with John Fitzgerald Kennedy?
A: The person Barack Obama pretends to be.

Q:What do you get when you cross Jeremiah Wright with Bill Ayers?
A: The person Barack Obama really is.

Let me see some others in the same vein.

Droppin' Gs is about the only trace of a southern accent I have left after years in the midwest and more years in Yurrp.  I've also retained the word "reckon" as it's in common use here as well as back home.  But my accent is now from about 36degN, 37degW.  Confuses everyone no matter where I am.

Reckon it's gettin' to be time for a cupan tae.

DT, buying into the "Obama is a dangerous muslim, and didja notice that he is also black" riff, posts an interesting video at UD.

Even more interesting, it is filed under the topic of "religion".

I’m not sure if Farrakhan’s Nation of Islam church is a tax exempt organization. If it ain’t he can endorse whoever he wants whenever he wants. I doubt Obama is happy about this particular endorsement.

The presidential race should be less about race and more about religion.

It’s Obama’s freakin’ religion that bothers me. Him and his wife were members for 20 years in Reverend Wright’s “God Damn America” radical Christian church. And now the frackin’ radical Nation of Islam of Islam church is calling him “The Messiah”.

I don't care for Jeremiah Wright. And I don't have much of an opinion on him either way, because I barely know about the guy. But he was into his 20's before segregation was ended. If he says some angry shit about America on occasion, I reckon he's got a right to.

And who gives a crap what the Nation of Islam thinks? I don't.

Heh – this comment from Jerry a couple of days ago...
Quote
DaveScot said he came to bury Darwin. I do not want to bury him but only move his grave to a less prestigious burial ground.

…reminded me that it drives the IDiots absolutely crazy that Darwin was interred at Westminster Abbey. Not just a church, which would have been bad enough, but a famous gol-darned cathedral! A couple of times I've seen UDers get whipped up and demand (not that anyone is listening) that Darwin's remains be dug up and be put elsewhere (presumably heaved off a local bridge and into the River Thames). This prompted me to search UD for references and I came upon this classic thread.
It dates from mid 2006 and viewing it from a two year remove reveals what was possibly a golden age of tard for UD. Dr Dr D asks his flock to consider the  Black Knight scene from Python's Holy Grail movie:

Quote
Just as Monty Python’s Black Knight was whittled from a full human to a stump, so evolutionary theory is finally being whittled to its proper size. Where, in the whittling of the Black Knight, is evolutionary theory (stage I, II, III, IV, or V?):

Hilariously, many of the responses are for V - a limbless torso and head shouting  impotent defiant challenges. Consider: this was a full six months after the Dover decision and the impact still had not properly sunken in on these people. The roll call is impressive too - crandady, GilDodgen, Joseph, leebowman and others including chunkdz, who has made himself so popular over at PT in the past few days.
Ah, good times.

Disclaimer/excuse for this post: OK, while this is by definition on topic, it is not particularly current. It's just that so many of the posts have been getting downright ugly over there lately.
Later: small edit for clarification.

I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’ (Matt. 25: 35.6)

Jesus hungry? Thirsty? A stranger? Naked? Sick? In prison?

It’s not too much of a stretch to imagine that in America today Jesus is, indeed, black.

In a comment on a UD thread by someone called "Stash"(???), Dr. Dr. D. whines:
Quote
Leaving aside ID, Obama’s claim to be a Christian raises more questions than it answers. Why does he continually bash his more conservative brothers and sisters?

That's quite a load of hypocrisy from someone who takes every opportunity to bash more liberal Christians (e.g. Ken Miller). Dembski et al. have plenty of scorn for Christian theistic evolutionists, but he still feels the need to haul out the martyr costume when Obama criticizes ID.

Oh, and by the way, Bill, why is criticizing ID a case of "bashing" some Christians?  I thought ID was not religious...

I'm becoming convinced that the thing that unites IDers -- besides their belief that God The Designer Did It -- is a profound lack of self-awareness.

Think about it.  Gil Dodgen... Dr. Dr. Dembski... DaveScot...  BarryA...  Granville Sewell... and not just UDers.  Look at Casey Luskin or Mike Gene.

Can anyone think of an ID supporter who isn't habitually hypocritical due to a lack of self-awareness?

And I dont know if you have the time to answer this Bill but I have wondering about it for a while. What would you say to someone who defines ID as “Existential Apologetics.”

Will wMad respond?  Will he point out that ID is not theology? Stay tuned!

Is Obama a terrorist?
DaveScot

In my opinion the answer is a qualified no. The qualification is that I believe Obama is sympathetic to those who would use violence in acheiving political objectives where those objectives are aligned with Obama’s...I have no doubt whatsoever that Obama promotes class warfare and tries, very successfully, to paint the enemy as rich white conservatives.

DaveTard, you are a unqualified fuckwit.

This is an obvious, and stupidly lame, response to David Brooks' scathing observation: "No American politician plays the class-warfare card as constantly as Palin...She is another step in the Republican change of personality. Once conservatives admired Churchill and Lincoln above all — men from wildly different backgrounds who prepared for leadership through constant reading, historical understanding and sophisticated thinking. Now those attributes bow down before the common touch."

In this case, the common douche.

He is also blessed with a complete lack of self-awareness. With his posting of the patently ridiculous video blaming the current financial crisis on minorities getting home loans and his factless assertion that Obama is out to "get whitey", Dave is the one engaged in class warfare.  Of course, he'll never see it that way. Why, some of his best friends are black, donchyaknow!

Given this, aren’t you the least bit concerned about the Palins association with the Alaska Independence Party who’s founder said “I’ve got no use for America or her damned institutions” and died in a plastic explosives deal gone bad?

Quote
One of the greatest appeals of Governor Palin, to me, is she isn’t wealthy and she’s the first person in my memory (which dates back to JFK) running for the oval office who isn’t wealthy.

A couple of contrary points. Palin is not running for the Oval Office, she is running, as it were, for a portion of real estate in the Old Executive Building and a home at the Naval Observatory.

Also, Palin’s net worth is reported to be $1.2 million, lives in a home assessed at over $500K, and has at least two boats and a private plane. That is rich to the vast majority of people, myself included. Granted it still pales in comparison to McCain’s 8 homes and 13 cars, but I can’t fault Sarah for that. Marrying up, like McCain did, is a rare opportunity. Perhaps being a Dellionaire has distorted your view of what is rich. My net worth took a huge hit this week when my 401K tanked. And, get this, I am not blaming it on a bunch of minorities getting home loans, as you seem to want people to believe. Rather, I blame it on a bunch of bankers who seemed to think you could throw thousands upon thousands of subprime loans into a big pot and sell it as a prime grade investment. Smartest guys in the room? Not smart enough by half.

Not Fidelity, as they told me my mix of 2/3 equity and 1/3 cash and bonds was too conservative for someone my tender age. I too will be buying shortly.

Having said that, though, you are wrong on one point and ignoring another. You are wrong regarding the Palin’s wealth. First, an annual household income of $225K puts them not only inside the top 10%, but also inside the top 3%. By any measure, they are rich. Not McCain rich but, again, not many folks get his kind of opportunities to social climb. The question you are ignoring is the Palins association with the secessionist AIP. I’d like to give you another opportunity to address that. It would be horribly unfair to leave the conversation and give people the impression that you apply different standards to the different candidates.
