I would imagine that Ken Ham and all the rest rest at AiG will be bouyed up by the attendance at the museum so far. If this figure were to be extrapolated to the US population as a whole then surely it would come out as millions ? If I were a US scientist I'd be worried. The message does not appear to be getting through.

Nomad Posts: 311 Joined: July 2007 (Permalink) Posted: Nov. 03 2007,17:45    Well.. one way to look at it could be like this:  look at all the attention surrounding the museum when it first opened.  People representing science blogs and web sites from near and far were converging on that museum to tell us all how awful it was.  They're profiting off of the curiosity of people who don't buy any of their nonsense. How many of that 250,000 might have been people on their way through the area who just had to stop in and witness the full horror for themselves?  It's human nature, kind of like how it's hard to resist looking at a bad accident when you're passing it on the highway. I think a similar uncertainty will arise when Expelled is released in theaters.. if it doesn't go straight to video, anyway.  I certainly want to go see it, just to see how patently dishonest it ends up being.  I want to laugh when I see the fractured interviews that they had to lie to get in the first place, perhaps I might count the edit points to figure out just how much work they put into altering the meaning of their words. But at the same time I don't want those cretins to get a penny of my money, and I shudder at the thought that my seeing it might be interpreted as support for it.

I would bet more Americans accept evolution now than did 50 years ago, and 100 years ago. People have always been ignorant. For example: I have a few late aunts who grew up in Kentucky in the early 20th century and never learned to read or write. The deed to their land literally had an 'x' mark on it. They 'cured' my dad's athsma by burying a dishrag under I think a full moon and some other conditions. We might not be making progress educating people in science, but I think on the whole we're not going backward.

I'm sure they've been impressed with how accurate and scientific the bible turned out to be. I know some of the relatives, upon hearing about my physics degree, emailed me links to AIG explanations of why the earth is young and adam and eve rode dinosaurs and all that stuff. I never argue with them. If you look at AIG for more than 5 minutes and can't tell they're idiots, you need too much remedial work for me to bother with.

Children in this country who end up in that position these days Steve, are labelled as "statemented" i.e. a statement of educational needs is prepared by social services/education. However, when I worked for Premier Power: http://www.premier-power.co.uk/ At least one of the foremen was illiterate and had to ask a colleague to fill in his forms when he was applying for voluntary redundancy. It may only have been the tip of the iceberg. Paul Givan has no excuse though. Someone as well educated as he is (he's a degree in business studies as far as I can tell) should be able to pronounce the word neanderthal properly.
