I've always thought it was an amazing coincidence that Lou Gehrig died of Lou Gehrig's Disease.

(Yes, yes, I ripped off that line from a Sopranos episode. You get no points for announcing that.)

Um, that was Father's Day, actually.

Billy Crystal: You're a tragic hero. You're Lou Gehrig.
Robin Williams: Who?
Billy Crystal: Lou Gehrig. Everybody knows Lou Gehrig. The baseball player. He died of Lou Gehrig's Disease.
Robin Williams: Wow, what are the odds on that?

Well, now I know where David Chase ripped off the joke from.

No. The diagram detailing use is included in the package. It made my eyes water on the first attempt I can tell you, but it is necessary. Honest.

Nice work Kristine!  I can picture you laughing maniacally as you enter yet another line from another loser IDCist about how "this" is the end of evolution...:)

And I want you to know that I created the World's Best Post for your blog, but it got wiped out - with my homework - and I had to go start all over.

added in edit - YOUR blog, I forgot the Y... and yeadh, I just got lazy... That's bad when you can't be fit for Darwin Day!

I've learned that, even if commenting on my own blog, that it's best to highlight your post and hit Control-C, just in case Bloggerout has a blowout. Again.

A nice bit from Susan Jacoby in the washing post: http://newsweek.washingtonpost.com/onfaith....er.html

I particularly liked this

I should emphasize that I am not referring to the minority of biblical literalists who believe in the truth of every word in the creation story in Genesis. If your faith tells you that Adam and Eve were real people, specifically created by God as the culmination of a six-day process that began with "let there be light," there is nothing to talk about--and I don't know why you would want to spend one more second reading or arguing about evolution.

A really nice layman's article.

And a striking contrast when you compare what the scientific community has learned with the inability of ID to really produce anything at all. It reiterates that the underlying message from Dembski/Marks et al is: stop doing research. we don't want to find out any more.

From my own layman's point of view, here is how I would see the debate:

Science is trying to tell a story, the story of life, the Universe and everything (42, anyone?). It does so by working hypothesis, based upon evidence, observation, predictions and falsifiability.

IDC, on the other hand, is trying to advertise for its sunday brunch at the church, presenting none of the work required  to be scientific.

If William Shakespeare was Science, IDC would be the local preacher trying to break each and every night into William's office to add a Deus Ex machina to Hamlet.

Sure, it would be fun by entertainement standards, and would bring many to the congregation. But in the end no one would know what really happened to Claudius.

Just a thought, my 0.02$, etc...

If Science were Shakespeare, the Intelligent Design Creationism Hoax would be O'Leary.

Oh, fancy that!

I've always thought that IDC was to Science what The Da-Vinci Code was to litterature:
