I read things like this and wonder if this is willful stupidity.

If the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation breaks down, no GLOBAL cooling is expected. At most there will be reduced heat flow into the far North Atlantic and relative cooling of the European north west. But the heat that would no longer flow to Europe will just go somewhere else.

GLOBAL temps will not be reduced because the warm water that would have gone to the north will remain in the middle Atlantic which will become even warmer.

And to be clear, climate change denialism has never been prosecuted; it is not a crime. Fraudulent statements to fossil fuel investors and to investors in related industries are being investigated; those would be crimes.

bornagain77, KF, Mung, mw, Origenes, Silver Asiatic, StephenB and any others I might have missed;

I thank you all for your comments here.
Whenever I get someone saying that creationism/ID is not actually religious, I refer them to your comments and those like yours.

Your comments make the case for me: Creationism in all its forms is religion.
It does not belong in any science curricula except as an example of what science is NOT.

Sincerely; thank you.

BatShit is posting garbage about quantum physics and the shroud of turin and whatnot again.

I wonder how many UD supporters are irritated at his clueless babbling?

Actually, the last three times I was banned it was shortly after batshitcrazy posted a comment asking Barry to ban me.

You see occasional messages from some of the lower ranking Tards thanking him for his posts and the messages seem quite sincere.  Imagine somebody who doesn't know much about any branch of science and can't make nor tail of either side's arguments about any subject.  Then along comes Batshit77 with three long messages full of quote mines showing scientists confessing that evolution is bankrupt, quantum something proves Jesus and 2+2=6 if your heart is pure.  Must look like a golden ray of light in a dark dark world when it's really a stream of bat piss coming down from the rafters.

Last winter he disappeared for a while and the comments got noticeably less bad.  Then he reappeared with a slightly different handle and then he went back to bornagain77.  No idea what happened, but the UD honchos seemed to be very solicitous of him.  O'Leary in particular was almost embarassing.

Don't know what happened.  Maybe he got banned for a while, maybe he flounced off and then came back, maybe he forgot his password.

… you again insist on misrepresentation, repeating a long since exposed ID = creationism lie . . . and lie it is, not mere misunderstanding, when it has been sustained year after year in the teeth of cogent correction.

You disagree, I understand that. But your disagreement does not rise to the level of “cogent correction”. ID is just a modern repackaging of one of the OLDEST forms of creationism: the “watchmaker argument” also referred to as the “teleological argument”.

This thread, FYI, is a discussion of philosophical issues, not of design theory. The issues are important and of interest in their own right as can be seen.

It is a discussion of some philosophical issues of design theory.

What is clear, is that the loading of evolutionary materialistic scientism in too much of modern scientific work, declarations and education, is not being sufficiently addressed. And the underlying ontological issues being specifically addressed in the OP are seriously misunderstood by leading advocates of scientific atheism. Who love to dress up in the lab coat while preaching atheism and demanding a privileged establishment, under cover of such being science…

What is clear, is that the attempt to load religious creationism onto the biological sciences and science education must be resisted. And the underlying ontological issues being specifically addressed in the OP are seriously misunderstood by leading advocates of creationism/ID who want to dress up in lab coats while preaching their religion and who demand a privileged religious establishment under pretense of being science.

Well that's certainly bad news.  UD didn't pick up on it any too quickly.  Wonder why.

Imagine some of your last accomplishments being to promote pseudoscience.  Understandable if you've slipped into your dotage, not so much if you haven't.

Condolences for that, too.

UD only notices Dodgen's death more than two months after the fact? Hm. Curious.

You have some inkling of how non-humble Gil really was, I hope.

I mean, it would be one thing to ignore the lofty view he had of himself and of his extreme intelligence (I expect he was bright, but this was hardly visible in his UD postings), praise his coding ability and musical talent, and throw in whatever other praise one might wish.  But to actually say that he was talented musically, yet even more humble than he was musical, is about as wrong as Gil was about evolution.  The most obvious aspect of him visible at UD was the high opinion he had of himself.

I guess if you can see design in all of the parasite-host relationships in this world (even if you don't care about suffering and death, what in God's name would be the point?), you can see humility in Gil.  You would certainly be very wrong on both accounts.

I don't disagree on the assessment. It just seemed a bit mean to say it out loud when the guy has just died.

I wouldn't have, if he hadn't been credited with "humility" in the UD post.  That matter should simply never have been brought up by Dense via her reader.
