I'm traveling to Austin, TX today, be there until Thursday. Anyone in the area wants to meet for a drink, etc. I'm at the Hilton Austin, speaking at the XBRL conference (woot). PM me if interested. One of my friends said he wanted to see some bats that roost under a bridge leaving at sundown - is that the best Austin has to offer?

Lemme know if you're comming through DFW.

Music!

But don't knock the bats.  Seeing 1.5 million of them streaming out from under the bridge is spectacular.

Can you stop in Chicago and make the White Sox bats come alive against the Tigers?

Maybe let's call his parole officer*. He's getting more and more active these days.

I don't really mind (just wish he would get into proper discussion someday), but it is a bit annoying to see "last post" with a new name and hope for a newcomer with interesting insights just to get his usual drivel.

Meh, I hope he gets better soon.

It's been, what, 5 years? 6 years? An internet eternity, anyway, since the Talk.Origins Archive got hacked and its interactive scripts were nuked as a defensive measure. Wes noted that he was working on new scripts that would lack the old vulnerabilities, but it was (understandably!) not a high priority for him. Well, in view of low long it's been with little or no externally-evident activity, I have a suggestion: Why not start looking at existing Open Source CMSes? The attacks which crippled the Archive are probably known quantities by now, and there would be safeguards against those attacks; there would also be safeguards against however-many of the new attacks which evil-minded crackers have devised in the intervening time.
Yes? No?

Yes? No?

Actually, I am working on installing PhpBB, MediaWiki, and Drupal for the Archive. We'll be putting out a call for volunteers, hopefully before New Year's.

ETA: Quite a lot of what the Archive wanted to do interactively has been handled by PT since 2004. But, yes, we do need to get the knowledge base rolling again.
