N.Wells my challenges were based upon the press release from the University of Toronto, not the Blencowe paper.

It's sad that the best you can do is misrepresent what was being discussed.

That last sentence is an outright lie.  The first sentence is lame and pitiful, even for you.

You are being a total idiot.  Your claim is about the science.  This is presented in the paper, which is described (albeit not well) in the press release.  You have a habit of picking on stuff that you find attractive without properly understanding it, and then misrepresenting it.  You also have a bad habit of not going further than abstracts and press releases.  This kills your arguments more often than not, as happened here.  Go on, go post that argument in Larry's thread and see how far that gets you.

Science trumps individual papers, papers trump abstracts, and abstracts trump press releases, and pretty much everything confuses you.  Deal with it.

I'm representing everything just fine.  You misrepresented the press release, which in turn misrepresented the paper, leaving you completely full of BS, as usual.

If you simply assumed that as a rule whatever you were going to say is wrong, and that not saying anything was the wisest course of action, you would be far ahead of where you are today.

Don't you care about making yourself a laughingstock?  Wouldn't you rather actually make statements that are correct and which don't leave you looking like a fool?

Wow N.Wells, you are not very good at handling being shown to be wrong. I did not even link to the paper, I only linked to the information in the (more reliable than usual) press release from the University of Toronto. And I still find nothing wrong with including the additional info, for the benefit of the general public. It's in a way fascinating how you regularly have to throw insults at such places, while I have no need to. You are certainly very much on the defensive, even against academia at large.

Oh and the guided/unguided discussion went so well (for me) that I had to stop the Jeopardy countdown music. If you are familiar with the way the game show works then you know what that means.

Why has Gaulin started channelling Joe G? Has anybody seen them in the same room together?

That's why you are no good at science, baby Gaulin. You have to remove your comments before you get your arse burnt further.

When your not-science is based on crappy TV quiz shows ( I had to Google Jeopardy to find out what it was) and fictional crime writers you are nothing but an idiot.

Ditch your religion, baby Gaulin, stop playing chess as a pigeon and get on with caring for your hard-pressed family.

Wishful thinking: you haven't yet proven me wrong.  You made a claim about a scientific discovery,

Quote
Larry Moran's belief that almost all of the human genome is "junk" is being trashed by exciting new research
so I checked out the paper, and you are wrong about the science and its implications.

Hint: one basic principle of scientific methodology is to go to the original source.  This is emphasized right at the beginning of an education in science.  Your not knowing this / not doing this (as you yourself admit by saying "I did not even link to the paper") demonstrates your incompetence in science.

As Georgi Marinov said,
Quote
When you are making people wonder what is more stupid -- press releases or you -- you should know that this is not a conversation you should be part of.

My "throwing insults" at the University of Toronto for its press release consisted in its entirety of saying "which is described (albeit not well) in the press release" and " the press release, which in turn misrepresented the paper".  This is pretty lame for an insult, but has the virtue of being true.  In contrast, your ability to defend your pile of not-a-theory consists of using such phrases as "Go to hell you waste of time piece of shit" and "F--- you", because you certainly haven't been able to come up with any supporting evidence, and you show no interest in defending your logic.

How can a post from 3 days ago be my latest?

It's the result of the forum software making it too easy to start a new thread, instead of adding to the end of an already started thread.

What it contained is still in the forum. I copied its contents to Eric's thread then deleted the new comment. The spacer has since been making it easy for myself and others to not do the same thing.

Pathetic, Gary, really pathetic.  Or as we might as well say, same old same old.

Why do you think it's reasonable to turn this thread into a peanut gallery for your obliteration going on elsewhere?
You don't do any better on any other sites.
You don't score anything but own goals.
You don't present anything new.
Enough people do pay attention that you don't get away with misrepresenting what you've been up to or its inevitable failure.

If you can't defend your effluent here, you can't defend it anywhere.
If you can't convince a single persons to support your claims, any of them, in 9+ years, you're not going to start now -- not without flushing the current shit and replacing it with something better.
You know -- the 'guess' element of your 'process'.
Guess better, Gary.

I think that's as much me as him. I bring stuff here to avoid cluttering up other people's blogs, and to see if Gary can change / be changed over time.

Oddly enough I find your approach non-problematic.
Gary, with his surfeit of absurdist music videos and obsessive attention-whoring, is a different story entirely.
But the, you're an intelligent being.  Gary appears not to be.

You sound surprised.
Yet the only role you've played lately is PR hack for your "theory".
You don't defend it.
You don't clarify it.
You don't answer questions about it or elaborate on it.
You just do PR.  Badly, of course, as you do all things badly.
But it seems odd to complain that your own primary mode of interaction is widespread.  Is the problem that it dilutes your feelings of uniqueness, of being special?

And, of course, he just finished arguing about some science by elevating his interpretation of a PR statement above the science itself!

His sig ought to be "Fighting to expand ridiculousness".

Gary, heck of a response to Simon Gunkel at http://sandwalk.blogspot.com/2016.......9025048  -  how could anyone question whether or not that convinced lots of people of the rightness of your cause?

Over at Sandwalk, Gary cames up with yet another demonstration of his inability to think scientifically:
Quote
A brain manipulatory parasite requires a model/theory related to how brains work, therefore the Darwinian model is the wrong one to use.

This is untrue.  WE need to understand biochemistry and anatomy and have an understanding of how the brain works to explain what the parasite does.  However, that does not mean that the parasite needs a model of the brain to have perfected its accomplishments.

As NoName has pointed out numerous times, just because we can use calculus to model how a falcon catches its prey or how an outfielder catches a baseball doesn't mean that they actually perform calculus.

It is amazing that you don't get this.  Just because you don't understand something does not mean that it is not understood.  When you misunderstand something, your instincts aren't worth crap.  You've got huge gaps in your thinking that you are completely blind to, like a two-year-old who thinks he can hide by covering his eyes.

Edited to add: On re-reading this, it's possible that you might have meant that for us to understand how a parasite that manipulates brains achieves its effects, we need a solid understanding of how brains work.  If that's what you meant, I apologize.

Truly.

Gary has absolutely the worst case of map<>territory confusion I have ever seen.
I suppose he comes by his notion of 'molecular intelligence' because molecules need a model of electron orbital shells, valence, bonding types, and physics or they couldn't interact.

But hey, he posted a Limp Bizkit video -- that ought to be compelling.  It's his best rejoinder yet to the last few pages of decimation.  Well, obliteration really.  Gary doesn't even know what decimation means.
Hey, sudden insight -- could that be why his English is so very very appallingly bad?  He has no model of latin or any of the other languages English has pillaged for its elements?  No model of language at all, really.
