You also demonstrate that if NDT etc advocates will pull back on the incivility that too often mars their behaviour, they can participate productively in UD.
[That sharply contrasts with the mantra about unjustified banning as a common tactic at UD. Of course, I say that, having not been banned despite a strong disagreement with the “banner in chief” himself. Though of course there is the minor matter of a pending in-filter comment for a while now . . . which may have something to do with a certain upcoming blessed event for Patrick, the filter-clearer in chief it seems.]

The moderation and spam queues are empty. The spam volume has been so high for the past two or three weeks that I’ve been emptying it without looking at the comments. Occasionaly a legit comment is in there but it’s like finding needle in a haystack amongst 500 advertisements for viagra, online casinos, and things of that nature. If there’s anything of yours that was in the spam queue it’s gone now.

*snicker*

FILTER THIS HOMO. KAIROSFOCUS YOUR COMMENTS ARE WORTH ABOUT THE SAME AS VIAGRA ADVERTS. THAT WILL LEARN YOU TO DISAGREE WITH ME .-dt

Creationist Thermodynamics, Again

Category: Anti-Creationism
Posted on: April 2, 2007 6:12 PM, by Jason Rosenhouse

The folks over at Uncommon Descent have unveiled a new blogger: mathematician Granville Sewell. He's the latest know-nothing to convert a comically simplistic version of the second law of thermodynamics into an anti-evolution argument.

Of course, this is one of those shark-jumping, litmus-test arguments that tell you immediately you are dealing with a crank. The second law of thermodynamics and modern evolutionary theory are not in conflict. That is a fact, not an opinion. Anyone claiming they are in conflict is confused about at least one of them, and probably both.

I have previously dealt at length with Sewell's arguments. Let's have a look at his latest rantings.

I got banned one time for quoting Dembski. Not quoting Dembski and then making a quip, but just posting a 1 paragraph quote with no alterations, ellipses, or anything like that.

O Whispering Kiai...

... Master of Aikido, I bow to you.

Aikido is harmony of spirit, a martial art that emphasizes joining with an attack and redirecting the attacker's energy.

Kiai is unity of mind, the inner amassing of energy released in a single explosive focus of will, as in a shout.

I don't remember what the quote was. And I'm not going to look through 472 pages of this thread to find it. It was something like, the Dembski post was "Nobody could sensibly believe that Intelligent Design is derived from anything in the bible yada yada..." and the quote I posted was "Intelligent Design is simply the book of John rewritten in the language of Information Theory yada yada..."

Hey, I know a job you can fill! Secretary at ISCID. I have called them three times, and nobody's ever picked up.

I was calling to find out when the next issue of the Intelligent Design journal is coming out. They've missed their last six issues. Perhaps they were too busy photoshopping that graphic about how evolution is going out of business.

You also demonstrate that if NDT etc advocates will pull back on the incivility that too often mars their behaviour, they can participate productively in UD.

That is a false statement. Many people have been banned from Uncommon Descent for reasons far a cry from "incivility". E.g., I have been banned from Uncommon Descent three times:

1. Pointing out correctly (on-topic) that Scientific American is not a peer-reviewed scientific journal.
2. For arguing reasonably (on-topic) that an arm can act as a sling, such as slinging mud or rocks, or as a windmill pitch in softball.
3. For rightly defending (off-topic but off-site) a science teacher from unfair accusations of lying. Those making the accusations (off-topic but on-site) were allowed to continue their mockery.

There are many such examples.

The teacher, Allen MacNeill, even offered a class at Cornell, Evolution and Design: Is There Purpose in Nature?, encouraging an open discussion of the issues. MacNeill was then invited to participate at Uncommon Descent.

scordova blogged
Quote

I am told MacNeill has been very respectful to the much besieged IDEA club at Cornell, and I am grateful for his civility toward my embattled comrades there. I hope we at Uncommon Descent will reciprocate the civility he has extended to IDists at his school.

Apparently not. And defending him was a banning offense. While scordova and others stood by.

After the whole DaveScot vs. Morphodyke episode, right?  Ah, those were good times.

The morphodyke thing happened last summer I believe? I'm not sure when that banning took place. A while back. I generally don't post on Intelligent Design blogs because they'll just delete your comment and disable your account. Even several ID supporters think what happens at Uncommonly Dense is shameful.

Davetard is not very good at understanding basic concepts. Most science-watchers can distinguish scientific theories which lead to lots of research from useless crap which goes nowhere. Davetard lacks this ability.

I just asked Dave at UD if he knows the difference, but I have a strange feeling that my question won't make it through the Banninator Filter. And oddly enough, I seem to be unbanned.

Well, I think Dembski should be the one to help this man. The good Professor Zagyansky sounds like an obvious victim of the vast Darwinist conspiracy to silence any challenge to their fanatical dogma. I think what Demski should do first is successfully patent the explanatory filter, then he could draw attention to the plight of this tortured genius. It will usher in a new era of design detection and perpetual motion for all. Then we could indeed fly around in our new 2012 IPU station wagons. I'll take mine in pink, of course. And Dembski could pull it off, too. After all, William Dembski may actually be the most intelligent man currently walking the face of the planet earth.

On the other hand, he would have to prove a reduction to practice for the old EF. He would need to show that it's actually been used to detect design. Once he has used it on something, they'll just have to issue a patent. What could he use it on? There's always the bacterial flagellum.

Like Davetard, that guy got his scientific training by reading SciAm and watching science fiction.

Does their craziness extend in other directions as well? Do they watch a few episodes of Emeril and then imagine themselves expert chefs?

Well, they are qualified biologists, climatologists, doctors (especially in studying HIV), mathmeticians, information theory experts, engineers, computer experts, design detection extraordinaires, etc.  They are the James Bonds of the real world.  So, I wouldn't be surprised to learn what DaveTard can do in the kitchen with some cheesy poofs.  I mean, he obviously knows how to eat (just look at the pic) so he must know how to make good eats, right?  Bam!

“Why is it that anti-Evolution, Global-warming-scepticism, Political-conservatism, religiosity always go together?”

Some might ask why pro-darwinism, global-warming-dogmatism, leftwing marxism, and atheism, seem to go together.

Make one wonder.
