Check out The History of the Evolutionary Informatics Lab Web Site (With Supporting Documents) compiled by Bob Marks.  There's a truly spectacular Easter egg hidden on that web page.

14. Final thoughts

No one, on either side, has made a comment (substantive or otherwise) on the technical content of Dr. Marks's papers.

That it?

ETA I see others are hunting too.  You kids get off my lawn!!!  Hermagoras, I thought that one was too easy, it being right up on top of the page.  Sigh.  i guess there are probably millions of spectacular easter eggs here.

Also, it's worth pointing out that this is an amazingly insecure site.  Check out the parent pages and their entirely accessible directories:

A nice example here:

Dear President Lilley,

I hope your summer is going well. The enclosed book is a gift. Although gifts of books can be presumptuous, I hope you have time to peruse it. It is a well written work, easily read, that challenges some solidly held science dogma.

I and some others at Baylor are doing work in how God is revealed in science, mathematics and engineering [Romans 1:20]. One oft misunderstood component of this area is sometimes called Intelligent Design. The phrase is now used largely in an inappropriate pejorative sense because of its depiction as mindless uninformed creationism. Proper study of the interface of God and Science is anything but. Some of my work in this area is on my homepage at
http://web.ecs.baylor.edu/faculty/marks/eil/.

Baylor Distinguished Professor Walter Bradley, a pioneer on the discussion of  the need for intelligence on the creation of life, and I would welcome the opportunity to talk to you about this field. Please consider it an open and ongoing invitation. This area is a media active topic, and we would be honored to try and answer any questions you have, or to present an overview to you or anyone else at Baylor.
I have also sent a copy of this book to Provost O’Brien.

Thanks for listening,

Robert J. Marks II

[After name changes, the same note is sent to Dr. O'Brien .]

Anyway, there's a lot of fun to be had rummaging around to do there.

Is there a way to make a full copy of all that site material in a single stroke, while it's still there?

This quote has a certain level of irony:

Quote
"One of the painful signs of years of dumbed-down education is how many people are unable to make a coherent argument. They can vent their emotions, question other people's motives, make bold assertions, repeat slogans-- anything except reason."

Plus, it's rather ironic that this page contains dozens of whiny quotes about how egotistical those wicked secular academics are, along with several dozen little images of Marks' face. Whoops.

Ooh.  How about this good cop/bad cop moment:

Quote
Dr. Marks doesn't want Baylor hurt, and William Dembski, rightfully angry, has the capability of going nuclear with the media.  Dr. Marks and Walter Bradley meet with William Dembski and everyone promises to let the matter lie.  Provost O'Brien seems genuinely pleased.

Now, see here O'Brien, I understand your concerns and I want to work with you. But, my associate here, well, I can't predict what he will do.  After you wouldn't let him take his family to the faculty all-you-can-eat taco bar in the staff dining room he has had some, you know, anger issues.  I am not saying he would do anything, but, who knows, he is loco.  You might find yourself in a farty flash animation or maybe even your phone number on the internet.  You can just never tell what happens when he loses control.....

EDITTED TO ADD: I think it was clever that all the photos were taken so as not to show Mark's stigmata.

It wasn't hard to find this, either.

Or this.

I know it's rather adolescent, but I was amused how the 3 names listed there were "Dingding Chen", "William A. Dembski", and "Orlando DeJesus".

Looks like Marks is Galapagos Finch. There's a file in there somewhere that says "if you are not Finch, log out".

The picture of Marks holding a cut out life size Ben Stein's hand is 100% classic.

I bet there's gold in them thair directories. Gold that contradicts previously stated positions!

wget springs to mind.  It's originally a unix command line tool, but has been compiled for windows as well.

Thanks.  I went from there to the SpiderZilla Firefox add-on, which seems to be doing the trick.  Mirroring the site on my machine while I speak.  Just in case it's lost any any time soon.

It's on the internet and nobody hacked into their server or anything.  Seems pretty solid to me.

Looks like this stuff is full of religious references by the way, probably not what the IDers want leaked to the public.

Deleting parts of the URL to go to a higher level part of the site I would class as standard internet policy.

If you recall, "olegt" talked about a "smoking gun" concerning the identity of "Galapagos Finch". That stuff is what he was talking about.

Mark Chu-Carroll has also commented on the essays on the EIL site. There's not much else to do until they appear in a journal somewhere. I would have thought it would be relatively easy to slip some of that by in some computer science journal, and not necessarily even an obscure computer science journal. But maybe the editorial oversight has tightened up some in general.

From a pdf of a student eval:

Quote
1.  What characteristics of this instructor contribute most to his or her effectiveness?

(handwritten answer)

Whenever I lacked the ability to stay awake, he helped me to pay attention by throwing objects at me.

Very interesting side stories.

Same .pdf, same question, different answer:

Quote
great personality

He called me good looking whenever I sneezed.

previously I had considered marks to be above the level where Dembksi floats (imagine if you will a soggy floater).

I figured Gloppy was the dr dr dr.  Now I feel comfortable in concluding that MArks might just be stupider than Dumbski, only with more savoir fare.  and less sweaters.  but maybe more eczema.  and definitely a hobbit looking thing going on.

He should have made his name to be Gollum Bitch.
