Underwhelming Evidence?

That way the acronym would be UE.  It's like it evolved from UD.  Kinda the same way that Dembski talked about changing ID to IE if they lost in court so that he could keep peddling the same BS, but get away with it because no one would realize that he had just changed the name.

"Overwhelming Evidence" just doesn't lend itself to parody or wordplay (as a title, I mean -- the contents are another matter) I spent a few minutes thinking about it and "overpowering excrement" is pretty appropriate, but "OverwhelminglyDense" is still superior to anything I could cobble together.

Obfuscating evidence?  Obviating evidence?

Obdurate escapism?  Overwhelming escapism?  Old effluvia?

"WMD argument"?  Remember the "overwhelming evidence" for WMDs?  I love the morons for using such a discredited phrase for their own "overwhelming evidence".

Maybe "overwhelming evidence" is the best phrase of all, since it embodies the usual overusage of superlatives that pseudoscientists throw out to try to obscure their complete lack of evidence.  It also evokes the religious nature of their cause, since one heaps superlatives onto empty names to avoid the kind of power politics that God is supposed to play, and which they themselves may very well enforce in their theocracy, should they ever make one.

"Overwhelming evangelism."  "Obscured evangelism."  "Old eisegesis."  "Offensive errors." "Orthodox evaluations."  "Overused excuses."  "Overdrawn extrapolations."  "Old evasions."  "Ordinary eunuchs."

bFast,

You’re a great example of why I can’t make ID-NDE into a litmus test of the decency of a person. Thanks for your posts.

Tom, this is a bit shocking. I’ve been to Pandas Thumb and seen the sneering insults that are smattered about. But it never occured to me that belief in ID-NDE might be a litmus test for “the decency of a person” (I know it’s not your litmus test, but apparently the idea occured to you).

The only realm in which I see this kind of litmus test for decency is liberal politics, in which liberals often believe conservatives are evil, but conservatives generally believe liberals are merely mistaken or foolish. Since I believe you identified yourself as a college professor (i.e. someone toiling deep in the heart of political liberalism), that explanation for your comment to bFast seems to fit. Am I mistaken?

[Italics above mine to separate out the quoted portion.  What russ quotes is italicized.]

Yup, Panda's Thumb = liberal politics where all Conservatives are evil.  Yet, the Conservatives all think liberals are just mistaken, like when they support the terrorists by not supporting Republican bills.

I had considered it, but "Evo-dunce" really sounds too much like something that Davison would throw at PT and ATBC.  Got that? Write it down!

Don't let the excitement over OE lead you to neglect UD.   In  this thread JasontheGreek sez

Quote
I’d bet that a lot of people here and others in ID, in general, would disagree that avida shows what you claim. Even if it did show this in a computer simulation, again- it’s not the real world. On top of that- I’d say a lot of honest IDers would disagree with you and do so honestly. It doesn’t make a person dishonest to discount avida as a fantasy.

OK, Jason, you're not dishonest.  You're just dumb.

The thread's fun.  Tom English, Karl Pfluger and others trash self-proclaimed CS experts DaveTard and Gil Dodgen thoroughly.

Its funny how the IDcreationists try to argue via (pseudo)authority.

Pathetic, yes, but funny.  Especially when one considers how they claim that 'credentials don't matter.'  Unless, of course, it is their supposed credentials which, as we so often see, are totally irrelevant to the issues being discussed.

Yeah...can't get uncommondescent, overwhelming evidence, or iscid.
Probably just server issues-but it does crack me up that ALL the websites of the ID 'movement' live on one server. I mean, what is the point of all the cross-posting redundancy? Do they think they're going to trick their followers/funders into thinking they are bigger than they are by starting multiple sites?

Yes, but 'no redundancy' is the hallmark of IC systems, so that's GOOD design and shows a desinger, right? UC and OE are positively $hitting CSI right now.

Sadly, I think Tom and Karl's days on UD are numbered.  Scott has issued Karl a warning, accompanied by an argument from bold-font assertion.  And Tom must be getting tired of being lectured in his own field of expertise.  I'll be sad to see the two of them go.

BC sez something reasonable:

Quote

However, there are no preset targets or “directions” guiding natural selection

Then, in one of those out-of-the-mouths-of-tards moments, our favorite ex-marine, packager of components into laptop-sized boxes, and repeat offender of the Second Law sez:
Quote

Of course there is a target. Does the term “differential reproduction” ring any bells?

Differential reproduction is the TARGET of natural selection?

Oh  my.
