Mrs. Afarensis and I are planning on a trip to Chicago Sept. 17-20. I am hoping to visit the Field Museum and the Chicago Institute of Art. Any suggestions for places to see, relatively cheap accommodations, etc., would be appreciated. Also, if any of you live in Chicago and want to meet up let me know.

Note: Ordinarily, I would have included a few mocking remarks about the Cubs but then I read this in the paper and now the Cardinals aren't looking so hot.

PaV: I suppose for me to be pried away from what I do to focus long and hard on that particular problem would take, quite honestly, hundreds of thousands of dollars to begin to pique my interest.

You can crash at mine for an evening if that helps. I'm 3 blocks from Grant Park.

Watch out Afarensis! RTH is trying to instingate kinky "no curtains on the guest room" AtBC action.

Take a gun. I understand you Americans have some og them hanging around.

Don't listen to Louis!  Chicago is fun, and run by the Daley's, a fine upstanding family.  Plus, Chicago kicked out known knucklehead Tony LaRusa, so they got that going for them too.

Unfortunately, for this meetup, I am trapped out in the suburbs, and stuck there till further notice.

For some fantastic Pizza - "Lou Malnati's" gives you some real, good, Chicago Style pizza (http://www.loumalnatis.com/).  Luckily there is a resteraunt here in Texas that makes the same kind (Rosati's).  Only an hour away from me, but it's near where I work.  Good memories from childhood.

edited to remove a "T" from Rosati's

If you get down to Hyde Park, I recommend pizza at the Medici on 57th, and a stroll through the neighborhood bookstores. 57th street books for new books, or powell's or O'Gara's for used books.

I've seen the Afarensis family.

I don't think the lack of curtains will be a problem for them.

The kinky RTH AtBC action on the other hand may be a bit too primitive for them.

I must tender my regrets, but I shall be in the XVIIIth Century that weekend, defending New France from les cochonchien Anglais.

To forestall uninformed commentary, I feel constrained to point out that, here in North America we refer to the Seven Years' War as the "French and Indian War;"  the conflict where a million Brits took ten years to defeat sixty thousand Frenchmen.
