UD--via Cornelius Hunter--has gone anti-vax.

I think perhaps Dynese and Cornelius are entangled tardicles.

Corney Hunter wisely doesn't say that a vaccine caused a death. He'd be slandering if he did, since an autopsy says otherwise. Just the same:

It's good of him and unthinking commenters to link ID to such nonsense so mendaciously, especially now when the resurgence of measles is tending to swing opinion against the anti-vax menace.

anti-evolution, anti-climate-change, now anti-vaxx...it would be more surprising if they said anything scientifically literate.

From Corney's blog:

Quote
What is disturbing about mockers such as Kimmel is that they represent a strengthening tradition of delegitimization and dismissal of a group of people. This is a powerful and dangerous division.

We’re not talking about spirited political disagreements. We’re talking about abhorrence and disgust.

This is a much stronger movement, and it is not limited to vaccinations. A host of other, equally complex issues also fuel this irrational odium, including global warming, evolution and abortion.

This can be an enormous burden. It is altogether normal, rational and understandable that a consumer would hesitate, question and perhaps decide not to assume that risk, and instead opt for the risk associated with not having a vaccine. Certainly you can argue against such a decision, but that is not what we are seeing.

I would not put anti-vax in the same pile as anti-abortion, AGW denial and anti-evolution.

Anti-vax crosses political and religious lines. The worst offenders are the silicon valley elite. The most vaccinated states include Mississippi.

I've followed a number of conservative sites and never seen a large, politically motivate anti-vax argument. It's all woo-based. The kind of folks who think coffee enemas cure cancer.

It's more like GMO paranoia.  But although anti-vax is more common among the gluten-free yoga crowd, it's by no means all woo-based.

I found half-a-dozen libertarian anti-vaccine screeds in five minutes.  Then there's Mike Huckabee, Chris Christie, Ben Carson...  Even if they're pandering, they're assuming it's what their people want to hear.  And their people aren't pagan vegetarians.

Yes. what I says was it crosses political and religious boundaries.

Whereas AGW denial and anti-abortion and anti-evolution are largely tied to religious fundamentalism and political conservatism.

Catholics may not be considered fundamentalists, but they do have an authoritarian basis for their creed.

Religion makes strange bedfellows. American Jews are mostly politically liberal, but outside the US, there are lots of orthodox jews who deny evolution.

Darwin Trolls:  Meet a genuinely antiscience group...

Oh, good point, these are truly anti-science people.  Believers in Design of life, and despisers of evolutionary science.

The similarities are, well, predictable.

Just the isis on the cake.

I half expected Fudge --I mean Hunter -- to deny being anti-vax, but it seems like they have quite a few antis.

I kind of like thinking of Cornelius as the minister of magic.

somebody who is less war-weary and PTSD than me could use Barry's dumb bullshit morality to create gedankenexperiments to show that if any action that kills an innocent person is immoral, then so is all war, all the time. Sadly, I don't have the energy, anymore, but it would be fun to watch.

The endless confusion of probabilistic approaches to statistical mechanics with the 'unlikelihood' of particular unknown polymer configurations. And we get a bonus red herring strawman quote. Again.

I've been trying to kick the Uncommonly Dense habit.  But this is just too awesome:

Zachriel: Drawing ten straight flushes in a row from a fair, well-shuffled deck is not plausible (…)

Indeed. And why is not plausible? Exactly because of the second law, which is all about probability.

Nineteen minutes later:

True. However it’s totally irrelevant, because who said they are? You are not playing stupid with me now or what?
