Caroline Crocker presented "Bunk Detecting Principles to Help the Public Assess ‘Scientific’ Claims” during the ASA annual meeting 2012 (Audio and slides are available here and here).

Quote
Principle #1
Check if the author claims that something has
been proven or declares something to be a fact.

Quote
Principle #2
Check if the author makes claims to have
accomplished something that is beyond what has
actually been done.

Quote
Principle #3
Check if what is said is scientifically accurate.

Quote
Principle #4
Beware of grandiose claims.

Quote
Principle #5
Check if the claims can be tested scientifically, that
is, can they be measured.

Quote
Principle #6
Be careful when an author makes too much of the
scientific qualifications of those involved or
disparages those who do not agree his/her views.

Quote
Principle #7
Check that the "satisfied customers," "experts,"
study participants, and promoters of the idea or
product exist and do not stand to gain from their
testimony or participation.

Quote
Principle #8
Finally, be skeptical. Do not be quick to believe people,
especially when it involves your health, faith and/or money!

I guess she never tried to assess ID-creationism this way.

Why yes, be skeptical of anything that threatens your credulousness!

What else is skepticism for, anyway?

The AITSE is Crocker's little company pawned off as a "consortium" of - well, whatever.

Dembski and Marks are "members" for what it's worth.

I think Crocker's little company specializes in credential inflation using a frothy mixture of hot air and steaming bullshit.

I just hit the post key when I thought of "consantorium."

Creationists have a penchant for signing up with these shill do-nothing bullshit entities.  If your resume's as bad as Dembski's anything looks good on it.

The AITSE homepage has a helpful little green bar at the bottom where you can sign up for their newsletter.  Currently it reads, "Join 4 other subscribers."

In other words, this is an unparalleled opportunity to get in on the ground floor of some truly innovative work in High Energy Irony and Applied Propagandistics.

Also, if you look at their, er, her Programs 'n' Projects - there aren't any.

And under Events is Crocker's meager travel schedule through March.  "Events" are just her going places, well, going nowhere but doing it in a different location.

#9 Be ironic-al. Be quick to suggest false truths or ilogical tests as though they were rational conclusions from religious belief. Especially when it involves my book sales, seminars or self promotion.

Although the Bible is not mentioned, # 1 obviously should disqualify most of them, so why bother with the rest?

The Problem:  Some "treatments" and "beliefs" can be harmful...or deadly.

Some of these still should be taught to children as truth, however.

That was on January 21. Now, on the 27th, there are SIX subscribers! That's a phenomenal growth of fifty percent in just six days! By my calculations, AITSE is on track to have over ONE BILLION subscribers by 2015! It looks like the tide is finally turning against the Darwinist expellers.

Principle #9: Check if the author deliberately misrepresents others' views.

Caroline Crocker, paraphrasing Brian Alters to illustrate Principle #6 (emphasis in original):

Quote
Only 50% of the American public "believe" in evolution. Could only be for one of three reasons. 1) Scientific illiteracy, 2) Religious illiteracy, or 3) The activity of the "large...powerful...very effective" anti-evolution industry. Brian Alters, Chapman U, http://sciencedude.ocregister.com/2010.......10....2

What the article actually said (emphasis added):

Quote
Alters gave three main reasons for widespread misconceptions about evolution in the United States.

(Also, Principle #10: Beware the ellipses!)

AITSE has closed its doors. Perhaps Dr. Crocker lacked credibility as an authority on distinguishing good science from crock science?

Or maybe they noticed something about their "science," at which point it self-annihilated.

Well, that's what would have happened had they ever been any good at detecting bunk.  Fortunately for their cognitive biases, though, massive ignorance and distortion prevents them from even recognizing the power of the take-downs that come in response to their crockery, hence their boring repetition of the latter.
