The tenants before us in our current place was a Calvinist minister and his wife and kids. I had no idea that Calvinists were still around. ;)

BTW, we're buying a house. Not because of the Calvinists, though.

Scientists, u r doing it wrong, sez Axel:

This also tallies with another article on here today or yesterday, describing the pusillanimity of the modus operandi of today’s scientific community. No conceptual leaps, just dogged, pedantic drudgery. Epistemic ‘genocide’ by a cannibalistic ‘scientific method’.

Just focus on the big picture, forget about painstakingly collecting and evaluating data, instead dare to have a vision.

And by the way, Axel is trying to compete with KF for the most stilted style.

So now, scientists' "pathetic level of detail" is too detailed for ID sensibilities? Huh?  :p

And what, pray tell, are these big ideas from the ID crowd? More "you are awesome!" putridity from the rabble toward Batty77.

Dr. Torley disagrees.

And Thomas Acquinas was right about everything and so is Ed Feser.  If you had a PhD in philosophy and/or taught English as a second language, you'd see his point.

Dontcha just love creationists moving the goal posts?

Nothing Torley said or even Moran for that matter has anything to do with the actual discussion which is Nelson is lying about what actual scientists are saying and thinking about natural selection.

Healed by a TV preacher!

KairosFlatus tells us about the miracles in his life:
Quote
3[of 10] –> But in fact this is little more than an excuse for selective hyperskepticism. (For simple instance, apart from a miracle of guidance that led my mom to the right doctor when she was in despair of my life, I would not be here to type this, and if it were not for a healing in response to — of all things, a TV preacher — I would not have the back to sit up to write this. [Where, as one who has served as an educator at secondary and tertiary levels and as a holder of two graduate level degrees, I cannot be dismissed as an ignoramus.* And there are thousands and thousands of others who have been healed by God in answer to prayer.** Not to mention the millions who have met and been transformed by the living God, in the face of the risen Christ including highly pivotal figures for the course of our civilisation, from Paul to Pascal to Kelvin, Planck and more.] )

*Actually, he can:  Gordon, you're an ignoramous.

**But not DrDr Dempski's child.  Perhaps the good DrDr had insufficient faith.  Or his child has a condition that can't be healed with bullshit.  I haven't heard of anybody having an amputated limb restored lately, either.

isn't it funny how gordon regularly derides Ph.D scientists across the world as some herd of myopic ignorant sheep living in a lofty fantasy world of lies, who are too stupid to accept the obvious thumbprint of Jah upon the creation.

He enjoys the rhetorical technique of pretending that there is an inverse correlation between education and intelligence.

But when it suits him he waves his graduate education around as if it qualified him to say anyfucking ignorant thing he can invent to prop up his delusional authoritarian fantasy.

Gordon E. Mullings of Manjack Heights, Montserrat, is a shitty little hypocritical weasel of a man.  He is absolutely the best face Dembski's legacy of "intelligent design" flavored militant christian fundamentlist creationism could have ever mustered.

I would like to see Gordon fight syphilis

In one of the recent attempts to downplay the Jerry Coyne pwning of Paul Nelson the prolix vjtorley stood up to the plate with the post Larry Moran defends Paul Nelson! Vj posts his typical multi-thousand word screed, mainly based on Prof Moran's comments in the original WEIT post. My take on Moran's comment is that he was playing a devil's advocate role for Neslon's position; this take being confirmed by his follow up comment.
Vj commented on this (i.e. Moran's follow up):

Quote
UPDATE:
When Dr. Nelson, in one of his replies to Professor Coyne’s post, adduced quotes from one of the scientists he’d cited (Michael Lynch) demonstrating that Lynch is much more of a skeptic of natural selection than most people would allow, Professor Moran began to get cold feet about his defense of Nelson. In a follow-up comment, he challenged Nelson, saying:

Quote
… I was giving you the benefit of the doubt.

Notice the ellipsis. For all his love of words vj has decided to omit a sentence. Here's the original:

Quote
Paul, answer the obvious questions instead of continuing to obfuscate. I was giving you the benefit of the doubt.

Doesn't quite fit with the post's title, does it Vince?

Mining the tard has become harder since the ongoing parallel threads at TSZ and UD.

So these two nuggets are rather inconspicuous.

1) Timaeus vents his frustration about Jerry Coyne having a good laugh at Paul Nelson:

Quote
The limelight-seeking, and hence vulgarization, of the American professoriate has become a matter of serious cultural concern. Blog sites are popping all over the place, where university faculty take a professional holiday from rigorous argument and from the obligation to represent opposing views at their strongest rather than by straw men, and where they indulge in talking about subjects way outside of their expertise, while contriving to use their academic status to lend weight to their opinions in those areas.

Looks like Timaeus would lurve to be a faculty member, but no-one wanted him.

2) Axel makes Sherlock Homes look stupid:

Quote
Seems strange to me that Coyne, Carroll and Moran are all Irish names. How many other leading Unintelligent Designers are of Irish lineage, I wonder? Are they disaffected, lapsed Catholics, as I was as a teenager?

I bet other UD posters are itching to tell Axel that Catholics weren't real Christians™ to begin with.

Shouldn't the book have been published quite a while ago - like Nov 2011?

Wow!  Dozens of posts by Denyse O'Leary.  She's jumped ship for sure.  Wonder if the money is better over there or if it's more a case of not even Denyse can stand the current crew of tards on Uncommon Descent.

I'm not sure when the book was supposed to be published, but she took a month or two off to finish it up and then never came back.

I'm kind of looking forwards to reading it.  I read Spatula Brain and it was pretty weird - a paragraph or two of more or less sensible medical talk and then, standing out like a turd in the punch bowl, would be sentence or two of pure O'Learyism.  Of course, with Dembski, we won't get those more or less sensible paragraphs.  It will be all turd,  no punchbowl.

UD has definitely become the carnival of YECs.

Wow!  That loon is MADE for Uncommon Descent!  I hope he spends a lot of time there.

I wonder why Dembski washed his hands of UD.  Bet he doesn't mention it on his resume.

By the way, has anybody seen Denyse lately?  She rushed off to co-write Dembski's book and has scarcely been seen since.

Denyse can be found at http://www.thebestschools.org/bestsch....olsblog

Just like "Dr" Kent Hovind's doctorate, denyse's web site should be referred to as "best" schools blog.

Their list of "The 50 Top Colleges" is filled with - surprise - schools with Christian and/or right wing outlooks.

Perhaps it is time for Hugh Jass or Mike Hunt to visit and ask her why Biola U, Liberty U and "Dr" Kents  Diploma Mill Patriot "University" didn't make her list.  And hey - what about a shout-out to SW Seminary school for IDCers?

I have not been able to find an email address. As for snail mail, I don't feel comfortable with that wrt. the person in question. I wrote about ID vs. evolution and not about him. In his reply he said things like

Calvinist is it?!  So turn him over to David Heddle.  It's pre-ordained.

The tenants before us in our current place was a Calvinist minister and his wife and kids. I had no idea that Calvinists were still around. ;)

BTW, we're buying a house. Not because of the Calvinists, though.

Oh we Cavinists are everywhere! Watching you with our Ichabod Crane lidless-eye gaze.

Mysticism is a rational enterprise. Religion is not. The mystic has recognized something about the nature of consciousness prior to thought, and this recognition is susceptible to rational discussion. The mystic has reason for what he believes, and these reasons are empirical. --Sam Harris
