I can not get over how smashing every blinking sentence of the decision is.  It's a lucky dip of comedy; a cavaclade of crushing reason.

The ID's flailing response is a classic too.  'They ruled against us! Judicial activism!'

*edit* DI, even

Yeah! Clearly, what this country needs is a president who will appoint judges who will not legislate from the bench!

Best #### Xmas present I have received in quite a long while.  Made the whole year for me, and gave me a glimmer of hope for the future.

I'm not surprised that the judge ruled that this particular instantiation of state-sponsored IDC was illegal. I am surprised that he went on to make the broader ruling that ID itself is religious. I had expected to have to go through several more trials and their appeals before a judge on a higher court started wading into the scientific vacuity of ID itself. From what I understand, that part of the opinion is not a 'ruling' per se, but he certainly does a good job of expressing how ID is in fact a religious proposition, a trojan horse, and a pseudoscientific abomination all at once.

I still think that 'breathtaking inanity' is my favorite quote though.

The judge clearly made his anger at the lies put forward by the defendants in the trial known during the trial itself.
I think he clearly wanted to make this decision something that would punish these defendants from as many angles as possible, while leaving no recourse for them by not actually charging them with perjury.

The further beauty of it is that there is NOTHING in the substance of the decision that lacks detail or is appealable.

I hear much screaming and nashing of teeth coming from the TMLC over this.

bwahahahahaha!

'breathtaking inanity'

agreed; #### it sums up in 2 words everything about ID since it's inception.

It's too bad that evopeach isn't around, else some people would get to collect on a certain wager that I remember he wanted to make.

The icing on the cake for me was when Judge Jones took a kick at pomo Prof Steve Fuller and his 'ID affirmative action plan'.

From the York Daily Record -
Quote
Tuesday night, former Dover school board member Sheila Harkins said during public comment that she had talked to the district's attorney, Stephen Russell, about the legality of mentioning intelligent design. She said he had in turn talked to the American Civil Liberties Union and returned to her saying there was no constitutional issue.
Tuesday evening, Russell remained quiet. Wednesday, he said he didn't respond because he was in shock and he didn't want to get into an argument.
"Sheila Harkins would not have talked to me because I would have billed her for talking to me, and she would not have wanted to pay me," Russell said.
He said he didn't talk to anyone from the ACLU about intelligent design, so he couldn't have relayed an opinion from them to her.
Court testimony indicated he advised the district it had potential liability.

SHeila Harkins obviously joining Bonsell and Buckingham in being "economical with the truth".
