"Alan slowly unzipped his jeans to try on his new present..." - Chunkdz

The first rule of Fight Club a lacklustre England performance is that we don't talk about Fight Club a lacklustre England performance.

It is in the memory hole, it didn't happen. Sadly it has been not happening rather a lot recently. I blame immigrants/gays/liberals/single mothers/scientists (delete as applicable).

Since you only have a very underperforming England team to beat on Saturday, you lovely chaps are due a Grand Slam this weekend.

Marc Lievremont's experiments with players over the last year or so (which were pretty controversial because it's only very recently he's fielded a consistent team) seem to have paid off. I think the French team are going to be serious contenders for the world cup next year.

I've seen the Bayeux Tapestry in Bayeux a few times, bloody marvellous. Luckily Guillaume le Bâtard William the Bastard Conquerer was English*, so we won the match battle in reality. The tapestry, of course, shows this.

On the topic of beer: Yes. I've heard good things. Never touch the stuff myself you understand. It might be time to give it a try.

Louis

* He was King of England therefore the epitome of Englishness, and thus retroactively English in perpetuity for ever and ever. Despite an unfortunate accident of birth where he was spawned in some foreign Norman hellhole to French people, the power of being King of England, and therefore chosen by God (who is also English**), acted backwards in time to render his birthplace a piece of Glorious Albion and his parents temporarily English. Of course they reverted to being Foreign, and therefore disgusting, shortly afterwards. Hope this helps.

** The bible is written in English after all and was translated by King James himself, who was English (and in no way Scottish or Irish). All previous languages the bible was written in were rendered English by a similar process of Kingly Retroactive Englishness, as described above.***

*** Incidentally, this also means the Americans and sundry Colonials are also English, they just don't admit it because they are ashamed of drifting from the True Path of Righteous Englishness. Foreigners are failed Englishmen and should stop mucking about with their heathen tongues and ways and shape up. Some of them don't even wear spats! Horror of horrors!

EDIT: Shouldn't we move this whole discussion to the BW? It feels like we're soiling Alan's BD post a bit...

I suppose we could, but in a way isn't this us giving Alan a present...a present of inane rambling bullshit but a present all the same!

;-)

If you want to give him inane rambling bullshit you should get Robert Byers to post here.

On topic though,  Happy (belated) Birfday Alan!

ETA to add obligatory lolcat:

Actually, if you understand Byer's theory of things that look kind of like other things, they pretty much are the same thing.

Ahh. I hadn't considered the matter from the perspective of someone who is already deeply insane.

Good idea.

Um, don't do that. Really. I have been exchanging comments with Byers for awhile... very unhealthy as I keep banging my head against the wall, my desk, the neighbors house, a car across the street and well, all manner of stuff, to try and comprehend Byers thought. Anyway, since the English won at Agincourt isn't the French team really England's team? I mean, what's the point of burning Joan of Arc if you can't claim a soccer team?

Edit to add: or rugby or cricket or whatever odd foreign sport you all have been talking about.

FTK: I Didn't answer your questions because it beats the hell out of me.

PaV: I suppose for me to be pried away from what I do to focus long and hard on that particular problem would take, quite honestly, hundreds of thousands of dollars to begin to pique my interest.

Oddly, my mom told me about that book several times over the years, and I just got around to reading it recently. Coincidence, or conspiracy? You decide.
