I notice Glenn Morton's website is now currently unavailable.

Is Glenn O.K. ?

There were loads of excellent articles, including his testimony (which I've often used when arguing with YEC's).

It would be a shame to lose them.

Thankfully, his story has been archived on Greg Nayman's website:

Glenn has been fighting cancer for a few years now. He used to post regularly on TheologyWeb, but his last post was about 6 months ago when he declared he wasn't interested in fighting Creationists anymore in his time left.

Don't know his current medical status.

Glenn Morton showed up at TWeb again yesterday, posting a long rambling ranting diatribe about most anything and everything he claims is attacking his religion.

Be forewarned it's pretty depressing. I'm afraid Morton is going all John Davidson, turning into an angry nutter recluse with less grasp of reality every day. Or maybe it's the chemo affecting him.

Very sad. :(

I have to say, I didn't find it depressing. I found it honest and reflective. I'm not remotely religious, but if that's how people make sense of their lives, good luck to 'em. I'm not above mocking dumbness, but ... on bigotry, he has a point. If someone is stupid and religious ... it's the stupidity, stupid. It's not the being religious.

I wish him well.

It's a shame he took the website down. I found a lot of the articles very useful, especially when arguing with YECs.

Still, at least his testimony has been archived on various sites

I disagree with him about the YECs though. I think they pose as big a threat to the chuech as they do to everyone else.

I don't think he's been particularly badly treated by the Atheist/Skeptic fraternity either, so I can't see what his problem is.

His particular type of cancer isn't good, so I hope he's O.K.

Age affects the mind. I can't say how but I can feel it. But i've been rational all my life since four years old and don't expect that to change. Unless something outside of my control - God forbid - should happen.

I guess that given the opportunity, irrational religion may corrupt an otherwise rational mind.

I have preserved Glenn's creation web pages because if there is one thing I believe, it is this:-

There is nothing good that can come out of that which is false.

Creationism is a false doctrine. Glenn's pages illustrate this decisively. His contributions are too valuable to be allowed to disappear.

Glenn is claiming copyright on those pages. I doubt that is valid unless he paid for the server on which they were published. But it would be a good idea for people to save them in case they disappear again.

Yep, exactly.

There's a lot of good stuff in there including material that was missing from Glenn's original website (dead links etc.)

Talkorigins would be a good place to archive it, in my opinion.

I think he has said they could be freely distributed as long as no modifications or changes were made, if I remember correctly.

I agree they're far to valuable to be allowed to disappear

Copyright would belong to the the person who wrote the material.

(Unless he was paid to write the material specifically by a publisher which seems unlikely).

That's not automatically true, and on many forums it's entirely false, The copyright may belong to the forum. Take a look at the bottom of this page.

I will only say that considering the concept of fair use for educational purposes, copyright may be moot. And when arguments are made in public that may influence court decisions or legislation, I think it will be difficult to get this toothpaste back in the tube.
