This is the place for Phillip Bruce Heywood to chatter about his stuff instead of spamming every thread on PT.

Priming the pump...

Phillip Bruce Heywood:

Quote

Iím not a U.S. citizen and took only a passing interest in the Dover bizzo. I can understand how it happened - I think - and the one good thing that comes out of these expensive diversions to no-where is to keep before the Public the fact that no-one has yet got a user-friendly tertiary Origins course together yet.

Thatís what I attempt to do, and I can advize readers that the bad outcome achieved by the Dover School Board or whatever it was/is, is a product of that Boardsí failure to obey common sense.

I e-mailed them to the effect that the only way they could get anywhere was to come up with educational materials non-offensive to people with respect for biblical principles and mainstream science principles. I advised them that my publications were at their disposal, provided they utilized them in a spirit in keeping with said materials.

Someone has said that divine guidance is 99% sanctified common sense. That Board seems to have concentrated on the sanctified bit, but omitted the common sense.

All the defense had to do was run some of my publications, omitting overt biblical references. People out there are reasonable, and judges tend to understand a few basics.

Why ever on Earth courts of law have to decide such matters I donít comprehend; Once a school Board or whatever begins to employ mainstream materials such as I have the privelege of providing, the story will be different. There wonít be a need for a trial, for beginners.

People out there tend to have basic common sense. There is common ground, and science is an area of common ground, like sport, where various cultures meet without friction.

Philip has said some amusing things in the past when pimping for www.creationtheory.com

Quote
All of biology asserts a species lock. At the point when one species is transformed into the next -- and I am not saying this does or does not fully apply to the origin of humans -- something trips the lock. As a generality, life is designed so that not only was DNA and other information re-programmed, there is a continuity of life, species-to-species, and a mechanism operated to cause it to happen without violation of the reproductive isolation of species. It didn't happen by magic, it didn't happen by religion - whatever religion one may hold - it happenned through real, natural, describable, biological/information technological events.
PREDICTIVE THEORY; Mechanisms exist and will (in fact, ARE) being discovered, showing how species transformations occurred: this will include mechanisms for re-programming DNA,and for tripping the species lock. In other words, nature will be shown to be rational, and not the product of obscurantist quasi-religious-mystical wishfull thinking. A clearer picture is found at www.creationtheory.com , where may be found 49+ predictions, besides. I haven't studied your publications in detail but at least elements of this page are something of a step up on the nauseating same old same old that smothers everything at TalkOstriches. Again, best wishes. P.H..

Now that was from September 10, 2005 so by now I would imagine Philip has many more ID "predictions".

I also mentioned that He'd have to give me a thorough explanation as to *why* I must "eat human babies".

Is that the same as Common Sense Science, which is offering an alternative chemistry because quantum physics isn't Christian enough? (I wish I was joking.)

Heywood provides a URL when he comments, and it is to the Creation Theory website. The site is full of stuff about scripture and the bible. Any of it would not go anywhere in a US court of law; it is all about privileging a particular religious doctrine.

omitting overt biblical references

That's exactly what they can't do. †Not just won't but can't. †They are mentally incapable of leaving the bible out of it. (Or for that matter anything?)

Why do I always have the desire to add "Djabuzov" to the end of his name?

That's better than 'Djablome', which I always want to add to his name.

The traditional thing to do is to omit the Biblical references where you're giving 'scientific' talks, then include them when you're doing fundraising. Then you're supposed to act shocked when your opponents cite your fundraising talks ("Logos theology of John's Gospel restated in the idiom of information theory") as proof that ID is all about religion.

If Erasmus denies that's what he was thinking of, he's a liar.
