William J Murray turns out to be a quack. His "mental monism" philosophy is a form of mystic New-Ageism whereby if we all just turned our minds to it, we could make reality the way we want it. At least that's how I read him.

I think you're right, but to be honest I can only scan that argle bargle. This deranged bit was funny:

Quote
The mainstream way of seeing this would be that if mind was immaterial (and I think most of here agree that it is), then it somehow interfaces with the physical brain (I think one theory is via microtubules)

Cue Roger Penrose banging his head on his desk.  :D  :D  :D

For the record, I got booted from UD for accusing Barry of being a coward because he deleted all the posts of people complaining about his behavior.

It will not surprise you to know that BS 77 has replied to Steve h with approximately 700 million words.

It was hilarious to see "scroll wheel killer" batshit77 beg for Barry to remove the "read more" option button.   :D

That's almost worth giving UD traffic to read.  What was his argument?

Basically it was couched as a threat that if Ed didn't want to read ba's posts, ba could arrange with Barry to get Ed banned. Problem solved.

You’re welcome. For what it’s worth I only skimmed through your posts and mainly
saw quotes that were about “molecules in motion” rather than absolute morality; what appeared to be an attempt to out me (incorrectly) as a homosexual; something about the origin of genes and proteins; the mental consequences of atheism; the body knowing about your decisions before your mind; absolute morality and morality being used interchangably and some stuff about meaning and the usual quantum woo.

It doesn’t matter. I am happy to be out of this conversation, to return to scrolling past your
comments and not to have been beaten to a pulp in your basement. Congratulations on your victory

Unfortunately I lost my little archive of links to quotes that made my "best of" list but I believe I can accurately convey the only one of his I ever kept.

He has explicitly stated that his concern is not whether his beliefs are true, only that they are useful to him.

He's quite the epistemologist.

Darwin’s main problem is that he was brought up believing in a straw man, ie the fixity of species. If he had understood that the extant organisms descended with modification from the originally created kinds (the accepted position of the time) he could have easily seen how is observations fit into that scenario. He would have brought back evidence confirming the thesis.

Sometimes all you can do is laugh.   :)

KF is ID's version of a polymath. Joe tries to lecture us in thermodynamics, despite being unable to solve a thermodynamics 101 problem. Batshit 77 wants to lecture us in quantum mechanics, despite being unable to solve a quantum mechanics 101 problem. Kairos focus wants to lecture us about all kinds of things, despite misunderstanding all of it.  :D  :D  :D

A new winner in the incomprehensibility department:

Axel:

Quote
Does not the constancy of the speed of light hitting objects moving at different constant speeds, predicate a non-human mind/agency, always conscious of the existence and movements of all human beings – or how could the agency propellng light commensurately adjust the latter’s speed. So, the truth has to be personal and theistic. This agency behind light’s personal interest in each one of us, seems to have been left out of all calculations by atheists. It exposes their twaddle for what it is.

It seems, moreover, to beconsistent with my postulation that we each live in a little world of our own, integrated and coordinated by an omniscient, omnipotent God.

However, I think you boffiins have let the atheist dim-wits get away with murder with their evocation of ‘counter-intuitiveness’ in cases wwhere the issue has nothing whatsoever to do with intuitiion, but entirely to do with logic.

They cannot accept genuine paradoxes, ostensibly, absolutely contradictory – repugnant to reason, and hence the ingenuous, facile insult they deliver to their own intelligence. As if, at the classical level at which logic operates, it requires a flash of intuition to recognise that a wave and and a particle cannot be both at the same time.
