[Note: This is Arctodus23, I lost access to my account and email after someone from India hijacked it.]

Has anyone read this article?

North Carolina Algonquians, in the Smithsonian's "Handbook of Native Americans"

Real good read, not much is known about the Algonkians of North Carolina, given most of 'em were wiped out in the 17-18th centuries. Apparently small pox wiped out as much as 25% of villages in some areas, not just that, you have the devastating tribal wars, which were exacerbated by the want of European goods, so tribes would fight to the death for access to White trade goods, y'know, like alcohol, guns, and 'powder.

Then after a while the colonists just wiped out most of the survivors of the wars, selling most into slavery (as they did with the Wampanoag and Pequot, of Massachusetts and Rhode Island, respectively), the few that escaped the might of the colonists escaped to the Tuscarora, which were still a powerful nation at the time, before being utterly destroyed by a combination of Cherokee and Colonial soldiers.

The English left little as to the Algonkian's sustenance, but presumably, from comparison from Virginia Algonkians like the Powhatan, and the archaeological data, fishing was a heavy part of their diet, forming a majority of the food remains at some sites.

I am annoyed at Google.

Years ago, I entered a post in talk.origins about improbability and human reproduction. I had cause to be looking for it this evening, and found that I had linked to a Google Groups URL to bring it up. But that URL does not work anymore. Nor does search within Google Groups locate it.

I'm a bit annoyed with myself, too, given that I should have everything I posted to t.o. archived myself, and can't find it and many of the other 6,000 posts or so I made to that newsgroup.

:(

That hurts. If I look for a comment I made on any site more than twice, I save a hard drive copy.

The vehicle wreck last year put paid to a batch of my old hard drives. There is stuff that I thought I had secured that will turn out to be gone.

I've never bothered with Facebook so far, and that does not encourage me to do so!  :p

Plus, what occurs to me is that the universe is too regular in its features for the details to have been intelligently designed. (Sure, it has variety, but it has the kind of variety that would be expected from simply reapplying the same set of processes over and over and over.)

And take something that's stupid (like the recurrent laryngeal nerve) and use it over and over again.

I guess it's like Ford using the Pinto chassis to build a bunch of different, but equally awful cars.

My  ... favorite ... is the prostatic urethra, but there ARE so many.

OTOH, don't be dissin' the Pinto.  My Beloved and Darling Wife still talks about putting the '72 wagon I bought just before we got married into 4-wheel drifts.

Hmmph... my first car was a '74 baby blue Pinto wagon. All my friends ragged me about it, then I told them they could shut the hell up or they could walk home.

[darwin's black box is] Easily the most painful book I have ever read. While I was working on my religion minor I had the opportunity to take some seriously great classes but the reading requirements were always very mixed. Excellent books balanced with awful books. Darwin's Black Box was easily the worst of the worst. I keep it in my glove compartment at all times so that, should I ever see Behe, I can get out of my car and smack him with it.

He might find it gratifying to flagellate Behe with it.

You probably won't get one, with that book in your glove box.

If not in the glove box, how about putting it on the coffee table? Or would that be worse?

Depends on the pictures. If they're pictures of coffee tables probably ok but if they're flagellums use your imagination.

In a Behe book? Is Gordon left handed? If not this might count as adultery.

Onanism is a sin in its own right.
But Gordon loves to sin, it justifies the (self-)flagellation.
It's not as good for him as when other people sin so Gordon can whip out Mr. Leathers, but he gets by.  [sadly.  tragically.]

My father told me tonight that on a recent trip with his sister she tried to sell him on YEC. One of her claims (which she phrased as questions) was that it never rained before the Flood.  I consider myself fairly well versed in such claims, but that that was new to me.  Anyone else heard it?
