I'm in. Bye, guys. I've enjoyed the online camaraderie, but UD is useless fodder now. Posthumous thanks to Steve for all he contributed.

Isn't it time for new thread? We've missed the 500 mark but I don't think we can celebrate 1000 comments in the foreseeable future.

ETA: I must admit that I don’t know why the former threads had been finished. Was it a technical necessity or just the beauty of the numbers 500 and 1000 which became a tradition?

I've been thinking that it would be a tribute to the memory of Steve Story to close this thread and let it stand as a reminder to his gentle good humour and optimism. Uncommon Descent is on a downward spiral and there's nothing there now worthy of a passing mention.

"Intelligent Design" has had its fifteen minutes of fame and squandered it.

Wesley?

Alan, I can’t agree with you more. I pushed for shutting this thread down earlier because I felt that it had devolved into a site where we ridiculed KF, BA77, Barry, ET and others for their obvious stupidity, rather than responding to well presented arguments. UD stopped providing well presented arguments years ago.

If you need any more proof, just look at the fact that the most interactive threads over the past few years have been those where my socks have blatantly been trolling KF over subjects such as SSM and abortion. Acartia, Tintinnid, Armand Jacks, William Spearshake, Ziggy Lorenc, Paige, etc.

I think it would be a great memorial to Steve to let this thread die, just as ID has died.

Hear hear!

Maybe the energy that gets dissipated here would be better spent on the DI EN&V thread.

Or if you are really a masochist you could try reading Joe's posts on his brain-numbingly stupid blog. But I caution, it is not for those with more than two brain cells. :)

There have never been any “well presented arguments” at UD, and this thread has, from the beginning, been intended for mocking the UDidiots.

I give you Steve Story, post number one in the very first UD thread:

Uncommon Pissant is so ridiculous and moronic that conversations about it break out on Panda's Thumb all the time. The PTers aren't providing a dedicated thread to discuss the Everlasting Trainwreck which is that blog, so this thread's for that. I initiate the thread with a DaveScot link:

What’s up with the Utah legislature considering whether to teach intelligent design in schools? Haven’t they heard about Dover? :-)

apparently he isn't familiar with 'Divine Design' Buttars, or he wouldn't be so jolly.

The Dover decision was 15 years 10 months ago. Steve deserves a posthumous CBEB Medal or at least a congratulatory  honorarium recognising his passion for
preventing teh stupid.

I approve of the memorial idea.

Farewell, Steve Story.

These threads started with Steve Story, and per general sentiment, should end with his departure.
