Quote (stevestory @ July 03 2020,14:41) | Listened to a podcast with a guy who worked at Google for 15 years who talked about how no matter how ethical they think they are, there are major financial incentives to sell your data and to track you etc.
I’ve been meaning to do it for some time, but it just hit the breaking point so this morning I dumped Gmail, set up the Brave browser again, switched it to DuckDuckGo, got a ProtonMail account, and signed up for Neeva dot com, an upcoming search engine that won’t show you ads or keep your data. I’ve got money now, I can pay to be the customer instead of the product. But we really shouldn’t have to.
And when the iPhone 12 comes out in September or October I’m going to switch to that and not have any Google apps on my new phone. Apple Maps for getting around, ProtonMail for mail, Proton Calendar should be coming out soon, Neeva for search and Brave disabling ads and tracking. Whole setup is probably going to cost me 200 bucks a year. Worth it. I might even look into Proton’s VPN. |
I use StartPage.
