Quote | He really was a top quality pianist–although his piano skills, as great as they were, were probably outmatched by his humility. |
So, um, he actually sucked at piano?

I'm the same age as Gil Dodgen. I'm wondering if I can book Glen for my eulogy? |
You have some inkling of how non-humble Gil really was, I hope.
I mean, it would be one thing to ignore the lofty view he had of himself and of his extreme intelligence (I expect he was bright, but this was hardly visible in his UD postings), praise his coding ability and musical talent, and throw in whatever other praise one might wish. But to actually say that he was talented musically, yet even more humble than he was musical, is about as wrong as Gil was about evolution. The most obvious aspect of him visible at UD was the high opinion he had of himself.
I guess if you can see design in all of the parasite-host relationships in this world (even if you don't care about suffering and death, what in God's name would be the point?), you can see humility in Gil. You would certainly be very wrong on both accounts.

I don't disagree on the assessment. It just seemed a bit mean to say it out loud when the guy has just died. |
I wouldn't have, if he hadn't been credited with "humility" in the UD post. That matter should simply never have been brought up by Dense via her reader.
