Oh, like the theory of evolution in the 19th century?
Or the big bang theory, replacing the steady state model in the early 20th century?
Or plate tectonics? (Maybe not; I don't know if that one was "politically inconvenient" for anybody.)
Or global warming in late 20th?
Or Pluto getting demoted? (Of course, it was after all a Mickey Mouse planet all along.)
