FTR, FattyOnPhysics:

“For ONE, the earth/ moon system would fall into the Sun without any counter-balance- we need that external pull to help keep us in place.
Obviously you don’t have much of a physics background. And obviously all you have are “why” questions that 5 year olds ask. ” and then reaffirmed with “Yup and no one can prove otherwise” on your blog.

You also said:

“What happens when you stretch out a piece of fabric, say a bed sheet, and then put one heavy bowling ball on it and then try to get two much smaller marbles to stay a specified distance- relatively close- away from the bowling bowl?

You need a way to keep the bowling bowl from making too big of a dent, which is difficult to do wrt ONE heavy object. If the fabric is too tight the bowling ball will go all over the place.” and reaffirmed “I stand by that also”

The external pull is expansion. It's as if you are proud of your ignorance.

What part of GMm / r^2 = mv^2 / r is incorrect, Joe?

I don't understand- are you saying expansion is not keeping the universe from collapsing on itself? Or are you just an ass?

I'm saying planetary orbits are stable regardless of any expansion*, caekboy.  You claimed they're not, and that without expansion Earth would fall into the sun.  Let's see your evidence.  You could start with showing what's wrong with GMm / r^2 = mv^2 / r .

*Utterly negligible at solar-system scales anyway.  There's a reason the Hubble-constant is usually expressed per megaparsec.

So a universal collapse would not effect our solar system. Are you really that fucking ignorant?

And no, I never made the claim you ascribe to me. My claim pertained to Richie's imaginary universe under the assumption it played by the same rules ours does.

So grow up fuck-breath

Here you go, Joe.  I've helped.

Just to make sure you understand, because, to be honest, understanding isn't your strength: the words in dark letters like this are the claim which you're now denying having made.

If you're willing to accept that it's not true that Earth would fall into the Sun without an external pull, that's fine.  You will have learned something (Feels good, doesn't it?  Maybe you should try it again one day) and I will have one less thing to laugh at.

Asshole. That comment pertained to Richie's imaginary universe.

Grow up already.

OK, genius, in Rich's imaginary universe, with its imaginary earth and imaginary moon orbiting an imaginary sun: how strong is the external force and and why is it needed?

Great, when proven to be ignorant of the actual discussion JohnW presses on.

A universe that is not expanding will collapse on itself. That's it. And with Richie's universe there isn't any external force. In order for it to work all the laws have to be changed or the designer needs to intervene- just as I have said to Richie.
