Quote (Hermagoras @ Mar. 22 2011,16:19) | A funny moment from Larry Moran |
More drollery from Larry.
Quote | Bantay: "... Richard Dawkins wrote in his collection of essays A Devil’s Chaplain, published in 2003, that as a scientist he is a Darwinist”
Mr. Moran, what is your explanation for this? |
Quote | Larry Moran: My explanation is that Richard Dawkins is, in fact, a Darwinist, just as he claims. |
It's as if they can't grasp the simple point that, in biology, a Darwinist usually refers to someone who stresses the importance of natural selection over other evolutionary mechanisms.
For instance, Lynn Margulis is not a reductive Neodarwinist (meaning she rejects that simplistic mechanisms of variation can explain speciation and other aspects of evolutionary diversification), but is "definitely a Darwinist" (meaning adaptive variation is subject to selection).
