Wonder if the evangelical/protestant types over there (Hi Clive!) know the origins of the name? Extra Ecclesiam nulla salus (EENS) is the Catholic doctrine* that outside the Church there is no salvation. The primacy of the immortal soul doomed many protestants and heretics to unfun things like being burned alive in efforts to 'save' them.
