I don't see any problem with it. He is saying that environmental conditions resulted in differential rates of survival and reproduction, resulting in the observed changes.

C'mon, Corney, tell us again how 2+2=4 is only true for certain God-ordained values of 2. And "4" is in the Bible, so it's scientific, for a certain God-ordained value of "scientific".
