Wow!  Time for some PZ Myers style online poll adjusting?  Dembski and his publishers are having a $5000.00 contest for the best two minute video explaining, "Why do you believe God is good?"  Here are the rules:

Visit www.godornot.com for all details related to this contest. Here are some highlights:

* The contest runs January 4, 2010 through April 5, 2010.
* The contest is for all students enrolled in at least 12 hours per semester.
* There is no cost or obligation to enter.
* Students can post videos no longer than 2 minutes each.
* There is no limit to the number of videos that a student can enter in the contest.
* The public will vote on their favorite video.
* Video entry with most votes by April 5, 2010 wins GRAND PRIZE OF $5,000

Now I can see all sorts of videos that I would like to enter in this contest.  For instance, God is clearly good because as soon as Adam and Eve acquired morals (that is, ate "of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil") he immediately kicked them out of the Garden of Eden, brought death and disease into the world AND condemned all of their descendents to the same fate - until he thought of having a son and then torturing him to death so He could stop - well, He stopped something, although it's not too clear exactly what he stopped since we all still get sick and die, but clearly, God is Good!

And the flood!  God killed EVERYBODY ON EARTH except for Noah and his family AND ALL OF THE PLANTS AND ANIMALS!!  Now if that isn't good, then Hitler was a nasty person!!

And how about Exodus 21:20-21?  "If a man beats his male or female slave with a rod and the slave dies as a direct result, he must be punished, but he is not to be punished if the slave gets up after a day or two, since the slave is his property."*

Well, all that's just scratching the surface of what could be put into a video proving, from God's Own Word, just how good God is.  The problem is that I'm about 40 years past being a student and I don't feel like going back now, just for a chance to win $5000.00.  But, if any legitimate student wants to enter, and you need a script ...

But that's not the best part.  The best part is:

* The public will vote on their favorite video.

Now suppose they actually choose the winner by popular vote.  (Note that they don't actually say that, just that the public will vote on their favorite video - nothing about that vote actually meaning anything.)  But if they do determine the $5000.00 winner by popular vote, and considering PZ Myer's widely acknowledged and oft demonstrated skill at making all kinds of online polls come out right ...

Wouldn't it be wonderful to publish a video showing just exactly how good God is and win $5000.00 of William A. Dembski's money doing it?

* Edited to add, Whoops!  I got fooled by the Liar's Bible again.  The quote above is from the New International Version of the Bible, which is beloved by fundamentalists and dishonest Christians generally because it makes so many contradictions and embarassments dissappear via the magic of bad translation.  Other versions make it clear that if the slave DIES after a day or two, the owner is not to be punished.  For instance, here's the English Standard Version of these verses:

Ex 21:20"When a man strikes his slave, male or female, with a rod and the slave dies under his hand, he shall be avenged. 21But if the slave survives a day or two, he is not to be avenged, for the(A) slave is his money.

The Contemporary English Version translates it thus:

20Death is the punishment for beating to death any of your slaves. 21However, if the slave lives a few days after the beating, you are not to be punished. After all, you have already lost the services of that slave who was your property.

The New King James version's translation is this:

20 “And if a man beats his male or female servant with a rod, so that he dies under his hand, he shall surely be punished. 21 Notwithstanding, if he remains alive a day or two, he shall not be punished; for he is his property.

Gotta love that Good Book!
