What are your predictiations as to how the DI, Michael Egnor ("That's DOCTOR to you, Darwinianist!"), and all the other ID whiners will react to one of the greatest April Fool's Day pranks ever? Will they:

- ignore it?
- acknowledge it with a "oh, ha ha, but Darwinism still can't explain blah blah blah"
- threaten legal action against PT for use of copyrighted images/appearance/whatever?
- whine?

This is how I know I'm on the right side: we have the best jokes!

Remember the famous "tuba-playing Neandertals"?  (snicker)  (giggle)

--For those who weren't around then --  back about ten years ago, Discover Magazine ran a tongue-in-cheek April Fools story about some Neandertals who had been discovered with "musical instruments", including a xylophone made from bones and a tuba made from a  mammoth tusk.  IIRC, there was also a report of a "cave painting" that depicted the Neandertals playing their "musical instruments".

Within months, the ICR-ites were printing articles and books trumpeting this (pardon the pun) as proving that Neandertals were just modern humans and not evolutionary relatives.

The fundies are not only incredibly stupid and gullible, but they are utterly and completely without any shred of humor whatsoever.

This one was good but RealClimate's Sheep-Albedo Feedback post made me laugh more.  :p

Quote
The recognition of the role of sheep albedo opens up some fascinating new possibilities for climate change mechanisms. There is in fact an important destabilizing feedback in the system: as climate gets warmer, there is less demand for wool sweaters and wooly underwear. Hence the sheep population tends to drop, leading to even more warming. In an extreme form, this can lead to a "runaway sheep-albedo feedback," which is believed to have led to the present torrid climate of Venus.

It's disturbing how many people at Panda's Thumb and related sites are falling for this.

I can't keep up with everything. So...Dr. Egnor is real, he really said what he said, and the PT crew made a phony DI website to make what he said appear as more "street theatre" including a bet of alcohol by Dembski to Egnor, who "won," but that's the joke. Right?

So Dr. Egnor not being an invention of PT is the real joke, right? :p Darn it.

Many of the people at Scienceblogs were in on it.  I'm not sure yet if there is anyone who has blogged the "confession" as real and who wasn't in on it.

I know the PT and Scienceblog bloggers were in on it. I was referring to all the commenters at PT and Pharyngula and such who are saying things like "Now Egnor's trying to save face by claiming this was a joke? No way!"

Yeah, stevestory, it worked better (or maybe worse) than we hoped.

My guess is that they will most likely ignore it.  If they can't stand not responding, my next choice would be "whine."

Should they opt to go the whining route, I can only hope that it takes the form of Luskin having a group whinge with Egnor via podcast.  There's something about the idea of having that fawning dolt interview that bloviating ignoramus in response that could provide as much humor value as the original prank on PT.   :D

I think we can blame the fact that you really can't discern between ID/creationist arguments and a parody of them.

I too was suckered at first, until I noticed "Discover Institute" and the little eyepatch on the da Vinci graphic. Then I thought the whole thing was damned clever.

BTW you need to add an eyepatch to your avatar now, Phonon.

We should all add one! (It could be like an armband to protest the silence at ID/UD/DI about this fabulous prank.)  :)

I was totally taken in.  I reconed that the DI was trying to bail out the stupidity of their YEC supporters.

PZ's apparent outrage was very convincing.  Remind me to never be too trusting again.

Dagnabbit! Consarnit! And hang ten! Egnor et. al. have decided to ignore the glorious wonder that was the PT April Fools' joke (so far as I can tell).

Poop, I really wanted *something*. What a bunch of wimpy dorknuts.

Wimpy, wimpy, wimpy.

GOT THAT, EGNOR??? YOU ARE A WIMPY, WIMPY, WIMPY WIMP.
